About FreePDFTools
FreePDFTools is a small set of free PDF utilities that run entirely in your web browser. There is no account to create and nothing to install, and there is no upload step: the file you choose is read on your own device, and the result is produced there too.
What you can do here
Each tool does one narrow job and states its own limits: combine several documents into one, split a long document into page ranges, build a PDF from JPG images, turn pages into images, straighten sideways scans or keep only the pages you need.
There is also Compress PDF, marked Experimental because it re-encodes pages as images. It helps with image-heavy scans but removes selectable text and can produce a larger file, so it carries that warning.
Why the tools run in your browser
Every operation on this site is performed by JavaScript that is already loaded into the page. When you choose a file, the browser's own file API reads it into memory, the tool builds the result there, and the download is handed back to you from that same tab. Nothing is transmitted, queued, stored or inspected on a server. You can check this yourself: open your browser's developer tools and watch the network panel while a tool runs.
That gives the strongest privacy a website can offer, because no copy of your document exists anywhere else to be lost or misused. The files people bring here are often contracts, invoices, bank statements or scans of identity documents. It also means there is nothing to wait for, and the site can run on inexpensive hosting, because the heavy work happens on your machine rather than on a paid server.
The trade-off is real. Processing power and memory come from your device, so a large job on an older phone can be slow or fail outright, and anything that genuinely needs a server — OCR, advanced compression, converting a PDF into an editable Word file — is not offered, because it would mean uploading your document. Like any website, this one is served by a host that keeps ordinary access logs: the requesting IP address, the browser's user agent and the URL requested. Those logs never contain your documents, and the privacy policy describes what is recorded.
How the site is funded
FreePDFTools is free to use: no subscription, no credit system and no "pro" version. Running it still costs money — a domain name, hosting, and the time spent maintaining the tools — covered for now by whoever operates the site.
If the site ever needs another source of income, clearly labelled advertising (most likely through Google AdSense) may be added. If that happens:
- ads will be visibly marked as advertising and placed away from the tool controls, so it stays obvious what is an ad and what is the tool;
- the privacy policy will be updated before any advertising code goes live, because ad networks set their own cookies and collect data independently of this site;
- a consent mechanism will be added for visitors in regions whose laws require one.
Today the site sets no advertising or analytics cookies of its own; if that changes, the privacy policy will say so.
What the site deliberately does not do
- No accounts, no sign-up and no email address required to use a tool.
- No uploads and no server-side storage of documents at any point in the workflow.
- No watermarks on results, no download quota and no finished file withheld behind a payment.
- No selling or sharing of user data: there are no document copies to sell.
- No browser extension or desktop program to install, and no third party receiving your file on the site's behalf.
- No silent surprises: a tool either produces what it describes or reports an error.
Current limitations
Being specific about limits is more useful than hiding them:
- Compress PDF is experimental: it removes selectable text and can increase the file size instead of reducing it.
- Jobs are capped at 50 files, one file up to 100 MB, 250 MB in total and 2000 pages. The tools enforce these same numbers.
- Everything depends on your device: a job that is quick on a desktop may fail on a phone with little free memory, and closing the tab before downloading loses the work.
- Encrypted or password-protected PDFs are refused. This site does not remove, guess or bypass PDF passwords.
- Scanned pages are not made searchable. There is no OCR, so text inside an image stays an image.
- Only the conversions listed on this page exist: no Word, Excel or PowerPoint conversion, no e-signing and no cloud storage integration.
- The tools need JavaScript and a reasonably current browser; with scripting disabled nothing can be processed.
Reporting a problem or asking a question
If a tool fails on a file that should work, or a page states something that is not true, that is worth reporting. The contact page explains what can be handled and which details make a report quick to act on: the page you used, your browser and operating system, the approximate file size and page count, and the exact wording of any error message.
Files are never uploaded, so nobody can reproduce your exact document; a clear description is usually enough to find the cause. For data handling read the privacy policy; the rules for using the site are in the terms of use.
Frequently asked questions
Is FreePDFTools really free?
Yes. Every tool is free to use, with no account, no trial period and no paid tier. Clearly labelled advertising may be added later to help pay for hosting.
Do I need an account or an email address?
No. There is nothing to sign up for and no email address is requested. You open a tool, choose a file and download the result.
Where are my files processed?
On your own device. The file you choose is read by JavaScript running in your browser tab, and the result is created there too. The document is never sent to this website, which also means nobody here can process a document on your behalf.
Why is Compress PDF labelled experimental?
Because it works by re-encoding pages as images. That can shrink a scanned or image-heavy document, but it removes selectable text and on some files the result is larger than the original.
Who runs FreePDFTools?
It is an independent project run by an individual rather than a company. There is no office, no phone line and no support desk; questions and bug reports go through the contact page.
