How to convert PDF pages to PNG
- Add the PDF file you want to convert.
- Check the detected page count, then type the pages you need or leave the field empty for all of them.
- Choose a resolution. Higher means sharper and much larger files.
- Press "Convert to PNG" and watch the per-page progress.
- Download a single image, or the ZIP archive containing every exported page.
PNG or JPG: which to use
| Page content | Better format | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Screenshots, slides, diagrams, charts, text | PNG | Lossless, so edges and small text stay sharp with no ringing artefacts. |
| Photographs, scanned images, textured artwork | JPG | Far smaller for continuous tone, where lossless storage buys nothing visible. |
| Images that will be edited further | PNG | Repeated JPEG saves lose quality each time; PNG does not. |
| Images for a web page where size matters | JPG | A PNG of a photo can be five to ten times larger for no visible gain. |
What this tool does not do
- It does not produce searchable or selectable text: a PNG is an image of the page.
- It does not export JPEG, WebP or TIFF. Use PDF to JPG for JPEG output.
- It does not convert password-protected PDFs.
- It does not extract embedded images at their original resolution; pages are rendered as displayed.
- It cannot guarantee success for a damaged page, and reports such a page instead of faking a result.
Frequently asked questions
Why choose PNG instead of JPG?
PNG is lossless. Text stays crisp, flat colour stays flat, and there are no compression artefacts around letters or thin lines, which is what makes it the right format for screenshots, diagrams and slides. The trade-off is size: a photographic page exported as PNG will be several times larger than the same page as JPEG. Use PDF to JPG when the pages are photographic.
What does the resolution setting change?
It sets how many pixels each page is rendered at. Standard (108 dpi) suits screens and documents; Very high (216 dpi) and Maximum (288 dpi) produce sharper images that are several times larger. Because PNG is lossless there is no quality setting to trade away, so resolution is the only lever.
Can I export only some pages?
Yes. Leave the page field empty to export every page, or type a range such as 1-3, 7. Pages are exported in the order you type them.
When do I get a ZIP file instead of single images?
When more than one page is exported. The archive contains one PNG per page, and every file is also offered as an individual download so a single page can be taken without unpacking anything.
Is the text in the PNG searchable?
No. A PNG is a picture of the page, so any text becomes part of the image and cannot be selected or searched. Keep the PDF if you need searchable text.
Why did one page fail while the others worked?
A page the browser cannot render, usually because it holds a very large embedded image, is reported with its page number. The remaining pages are still exported, so one difficult page does not waste the whole job.
What if the browser runs out of memory?
Each page is rendered one at a time and its canvas is released before the next begins. If a job still fails, choose a lower resolution, export fewer pages at once, or close other tabs and try again.
