Terms of Use

These terms explain what FreePDFTools is, what you may do with it, and what happens if a tool does not work as you hoped. They are deliberately short and written in ordinary language.

Effective date:

In one sentence: the tools are free, they run in your browser, your files stay with you, and they are provided as-is without warranty, so keep your own backups.

1. Acceptance of these terms

By opening this website or using any of its tools, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the site. If you use the site on behalf of an organisation, you confirm that you are allowed to accept these terms for it.

2. What the service is

FreePDFTools is a collection of free, browser-based utilities for working with PDF documents and images: merging, splitting, extracting pages, rotating, converting between PDF and images, and an experimental size-reduction tool. The processing code runs in your browser using JavaScript; the site's server only delivers the pages, stylesheets and scripts.

  • No account, registration, subscription or payment is required, and there is nothing to install on your computer or phone.
  • The tools are general-purpose utilities, not a document management, archiving or backup service.
  • The size-reduction tool is marked experimental and may behave less predictably than the others.

3. Acceptable use

You agree not to use this site to:

  • process material that you have no right to handle, including documents belonging to someone else without their permission, or material whose processing is unlawful where you are;
  • attack, overload, probe or disrupt the site, or attempt to gain access to any part of the server or to the hosting account behind it;
  • scrape, mirror or bulk-download the site in a way that imposes an unreasonable load on it;
  • remove or obscure any notice of ownership, or present a copy of this site as your own service;
  • break any law or regulation that applies to you.

Because processing happens on your own device, only you can judge whether you have the right to work with a document. Access may be blocked without notice where traffic is abusive or automated.

4. Your files and intellectual property

You keep every right you already had in your own documents. Nothing in these terms transfers ownership of your files to the operator of this site, and nothing here grants the operator a licence to use them, because the operator never receives them. What you do with a converted file, and whether you are entitled to do it, remains your responsibility.

The site itself — its text, page design, layout, stylesheet and its own JavaScript — belongs to the operator of the site and is protected by copyright. You may read it, use it and link to it, but you may not copy it into another product or republish it as your own without permission.

5. Open-source libraries

The tools are built on well-known open-source libraries, loaded from this domain rather than from a third-party network. Each one is used under its own open-source licence, with the copyright notices of its authors respected.

Library What it does here Licence
pdf-lib Creates and edits PDF files in the browser: merging, splitting, rotating and extracting pages, and building image-based PDFs. MIT
pdf.js Renders PDF pages so they can be previewed or exported as images, and reads page counts. Apache License 2.0
JSZip Packs several results into a single ZIP archive when you download a batch. MIT or GPLv3 (dual-licensed)

The full licence text and copyright notice for each library is recorded in the project's LICENSES.md file. Each library is used under the terms of its own open-source licence, and no endorsement is implied in either direction: their authors and maintainers do not sponsor or support this site, and the site is not affiliated with them.

6. No warranty

The site and every tool on it are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. No advice or information given by the operator creates a warranty.

Because processing happens entirely in your browser, the operator cannot see or test the files you work with, cannot confirm that a result is complete or correct, and cannot recover, inspect or restore any file. Keep your own backup of an original document and open the result before you rely on it or delete anything.

7. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by the law that applies, the operator of this site is not liable for any loss or damage arising out of or in connection with your use of the site. That includes, without limitation, lost or corrupted files, lost data, lost time or business, lost profits, and any indirect or consequential loss, even if the possibility of such loss was known.

Where liability cannot lawfully be excluded, it is limited to the smallest amount the applicable law allows. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot be limited by law.

8. No professional advice

The tools rearrange and convert documents; they do not read them for you. Nothing on this site is legal, medical, financial, tax or other professional advice, and no result produced by a tool should be treated as such. Consult a suitably qualified professional for your own situation.

9. Availability and changes to the tools

The site is free and offered on a best-effort basis. Tools may be added, modified, suspended or removed at any time without notice, and an experimental tool may change behaviour. No uptime or continued availability is promised, and access may be interrupted for maintenance or by problems at the hosting provider.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws applicable at the operator's principal place of business, and any dispute relating to them is subject to the courts that have jurisdiction there. A specific country and court are not named here because that depends on where the business is registered and operates. If you need to know which law and which courts apply before relying on these terms, contact the operator using the address in section 13 and ask.

11. Severability

If any part of these terms is found to be invalid, unlawful or unenforceable, that part will be treated as removed or narrowed to the smallest extent necessary, and the remaining parts will continue to apply in full.

12. Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated when the service changes, and the effective date at the top of the page shows which version is current. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms, so please check this page if you are unsure.

13. How to contact us

Questions about these terms, or reports of a problem with a tool, can be sent to [email protected], or through the contact page. Please do not send documents by email: the operator cannot process them for you and does not need them. How data is handled is described in the privacy policy.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an account to use FreePDFTools?

No. There is no sign-up, no login and no email address required. Open a tool page, choose your files and download the result.

Are my files uploaded to your server?

No. Every tool runs inside your browser using JavaScript. Your documents are never sent to this website, never stored on it and never shared with anyone else.

Can I use the tools for work or business documents?

Yes, as long as you have the right to handle the material. You are responsible for the content you process and for checking the result before you rely on it.

Who owns the files I process here?

You do. Your documents stay on your device, and nothing you process through a tool changes who owns the material or grants the operator of this site any rights over it.

What if a tool produces a file I cannot use?

Your browser reads a copy of your file and gives you a new download; it does not edit the original on your device. Keep your own backups and open the result before you delete anything, because the files never reach this server and cannot be restored.

Do the tools give legal, medical or financial advice?

No. They convert, combine and rearrange documents. They do not read your documents for you and they do not provide any kind of professional advice.

How do I report a problem or misuse of the site?

Send a message to the address in section 13. Reports about a broken tool, an error message or abusive traffic are all welcome.
